The department was established in the year 1970-71. The first HOD, Sri Murari Mohan Naskar served the department upto October 2003 till his retirement. Honours course in this department started in the year 1992 and till date the students of this department is performing brilliant results in University Examinations and is involving themselves in different co-curricular and extracurricular activities .
